Louise Millar's writing desk

I’m about to do up the study in the old wreck of a house I moved into last year, and have decided to exchange my huge old IKEA journalist’s desk for this little one to mark my transition to ‘author’.

The old one had room for my notes, interviews, files, photographs, a giant Mac, printer and the nine coffee cups I kept forgetting to take back to the kitchen. This one is just big enough for a laptop, a notebook and two dirty cups max. It’s very old and has a wobbly leg and looks like lots of interesting things might have been written on it over the past 100 years. It also has a tiny secret drawer, which as a thriller writer, I love. Talking of which, my new house also has a secret, which I’m currently enjoying writing into my third novel…
